hello dearies, this is called procrastination.

Listening to: Motion City Soundtrack — History Lesson

This weekend, while I was in Montréal, my photo assignment was to shoot cityscapes. I will tell you now that I hate cityscapes: I hate facing down strangers with my camera (probably a bad trait in a photographer), I hate feeling like I’m going to get mugged for my camera, and I hate feeling like a tourist in my home. So all five of the cityscapes I took were barely-passable, which is why this one above is the only one that you’ll get to see. Probably ever.

But, anyway — I’m supposed to be working right now, but I decided that I’d much rather write a blog post. I’m so behind on everything, and I still can’t find a shmancy black hat for my Halloween costume (during the day I’m going as a Man In Black, if that means anything to you, and at night I’m going to be an acid trip — nobody understands that one, either). And today I was disappointed to learn that only one girl on my soccer team knows designers in any way other in that “I’m supes-rich, I think I might’ve bought that once because I heard the name before” kind of way. And, speaking of fashion, I seem to have momentarily run out of ideas for outfits — I spent this afternoon putting on a large gray rugby with black pants (creative, yes), then with a black skirt and gray leggings, then with just leggings and a belt, and then with a different pair of gray leggings. It’s kind of depressing. But I can’t wait to do everyone’s make-up for the Halloween dance; if I can get mine to look like I’ve imagined it, it’s gonna be awesome.

I should probably get back to work now. Friday Foofaraw will be back tomorrow, I promise!

anwa has stolen your kidneys and run away to the city.

Listening to: The Flaming Lips — All We Have Is Now

Well, dear readers, I’m back and all that entails! Back to the interwebs (and tons and tons of unread messages), back to no weekends, back to school. Bleurgh.

In case you’d been wondering where exactly I went, I had a weekend, so last Saturday after my soccer game I packed up and went back up to Montréal. I spent most of the time sleeping, but when I wasn’t , I was Sims-ing, writing, or playing the Xbox Kinect at the demonstration at the mall. It was fun times, let me tell you, but now it’s done. Speaking of the Sims3, though, Late Night was released today; I’m only sad because I won’t be able to buy it for about another month.

But on the topic of the post title. I will admit that my titles are often nonsensical and only make sense if you think really, really hard about them, but this, while it might seem so at first glance, is not one of them. And this is why: The good people of my English class believe that I am a mass-murdering sociopath who is out to steal their kidneys. Now, some (hopefully most) of you might be wondering how this ever happened. Well, I will offer you this short word of advice:

1) If you watch too much of Criminal Minds and Law and Order: SVU,

and

2) You happen to be able to recite the eight prime signs of sociopathy off the top of your head,

and

3) You’re informed enough to understand that kidneys are easier to obtain on the black market than uranium,

Never let it slip to your classmates. Because you will be marked, and your roommate will be afraid to sleep in the same room as you at night.

That is all. I promise that I won’t steal any of your kidneys — you probably live too far away and, honestly, I have far better ways to make money things to do.

some things are just too delicious for… ah, is that a crêpe?

Listening to: Ladytron — Versus

Sometimes it really rocks being the only one in my photography class. For example: Today, instead of having class, my teacher and I took a trip into town so that I could take my color film to the awkwardly-houred camera store. I’d been taking a roll a day over the weekend (trying to document my life in Lomo), so the three rolls plus a CD (which will be ready tomorrow! yay!) ended up costing me around forty dollars. That left me with nine dollars, which I was supposed to use to pay back a friend, with which to buy lunch.

On the way to my coffeeshop of choice, I stopped by the candy store with the sole purpose of wasting money on another button for my CBOQO (Communist Bag of Questionable Origin, in case any of you don’t remember). This is the one I got:

We’d met barely five minutes prior, but the salesguy laughed when he saw it and said, “That seems just like you!” Which was strangely not-strange — I suppose I’m just that good at conveying a lot about myself in a very short period of time.

At the coffeeshop I realized that I’d wasted a bit too much money, so I had to cancel my order of coffee halfway through. But the people there were really nice, so I got a small mocha on the house. By way of food, I ordered what they call the “Chocolate Chimp Crêpe”, which is Nutella and bananas and 105% delicious. It was so good that I devoted a whole post to it.

I was halfway through eating it (it was very messy, since it was all melty and Nutella-y and the pieces of chocolate and hazelnut-covered banana kept falling out) when it dawned on me that, hey, I should totes record it on fake film! So there you have it, dear readers: The Most Delicious Crêpe to be Bought In The Middle of Nowhere and Consumed by Anwa.

this is not a profound post.

Listening to: Blue October — Overweight

If you’ve followed this blog for any matter of time, or if you know me personally, you should know that I’m not good at writing long, profound posts. (Or on-topic posts, as a matter of fact…). In person, I can ramble endlessly about something that’s very important to me, but I’m not the type of person who’s able to spill her soul on paper. And too be completely honest, I’m not quite sure what the point of this post is. Obviously, as I said before, it’s not going to be a 500-word rant. I suppose that it’s one of those thoughts that just manage to slip away….

But I stumbled across Elizabeth Soule’s photography today and just thought that I might share a bit of it with you. It’s very thought-provoking, in a delicate kind of way.

moments captured like flags.

Listening to: Vampire Weekend — White Sky

Only nine days left!

It’s officially the end of the school year, so things are getting both really fun and really hectic. For example, today we had an all-school game of capture-the-flag. It was sophomores and seniors versus juniors and freshmen, and it was pretty epic. The J/F team (my team) won the first two games, and the S2 team won the last one. It was really funny, though, when senior boys whose names I didn’t know kept threatening me, by name, that they would hug/tackle me to get to my flag. Ah, seniors. It’s hard to believe that they’ll be gone in only four days.

Since I have nothing more to say, here’s some quasi-random stuff to keep you entertained!

Music: Coeur de pirate by Coeur de pirate (I’m still ranting over this! And if you don’t know French, learn it at least enough to sing along with the choruses — c’est que je fais, parce que je suis une mauvaise Montrealer)

Lit: Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick (I love this book. I dunno why, but I do.)

Food: Go bake yourself some brownies!

Another day wasted. As usual; it’s one week till the last day of school, so it’s not as if I actually expect to get anything done. But this night was wasted in a good way: selling cupcakes at the spring dance performance and filming a clip for my friend’s English project (I got nervous and ended up saying “it is my chicken” in Annang instead of “it is my right”). On a random note, my nails are now almost the exact same color as that color pencil box up there.

Some nice and awesome things:

1) Coeur de pirate. Just bought the album, and needless to say, I am very happy.

2) An abundance of cameras. Right now, there are four of them sitting on my desk (five if you count my cell phone). But the one I need the most (a Nikon DSLR) is the one that doesn’t belong to me.

3) Jumbo cupcakes. I do love me some jumbo cupcakes.

4) 80 degree weather. It’s nice and toasty here, finally.

5) Harry Potter fanfiction. Don’t ask, please.

And, just as a follow up to yesterday, stuff that anwa DOES wear:

More polyvore, except that this is what I actually wear on a regular basis. The items are as follows: Shoes by Converse, of course,Morgan shorts from delia’s; sweater from Wet Seal; shirt from Forever21; necklace  from Never Shout Never; bangles from fashionaddict.com; hat from hatsinthebelfry.com; and earrings from Kohl’s. Notice the general lack of color and prints — that, my dear readers, is what the inside of my closet looks like.

Today, the weather has been rather dismal. It started to pour rain just as I was leaving the gym to walk to my dorm which, of course, is located on the opposite side of campus. Thank God for waterproof mascara, because I, as usual, had forgotten my umbrella. On that note, I have two notes of advice for you:

1) When it is raining, make sure that you have an umbrella or at least are wearing something waterproof — not, say, a 100% cotton outfit.

2) When a group of girls invites you to bake cookies with them, do not refuse. Otherwise, when you return to school you will do so in a leg cast. (Now that I think of it, this note is rather unrelated. It wasn’t our fault, though, we swear, but we did argue that he would have been safer baking.)

Please take that advice to heart. Hopefully, it will benefit you more than it benefited the poor individuals who had to learn the hard way.

Anyway. Today I made up an excuse to get out of Photography class for a few minutes and headed up the hill to my dorm. I’d borrowed this really pretty black-and-white paisley dress from my friend, and I was wearing it during classes today. When I walked into the dorm, the cleaning lady looked up and said, “Hey there! That dress makes you look so much slimmer.” I wasn’t sure whether to take it as an insult or a compliment; I was sure that she’d meant well. My reply was, “Thanks. I’m actually skinner than I look, most days.” But phrased more politely, of course. Comments like hers annoy me. If you’re going to compliment my appearance, please do so without linking it to my relative “slimness”. It just makes me paranoid.

Maybe it’s just the weather that’s affecting my mood — that, or the fact that I fell asleep at midnight and woke up at five this morning. Whatever it is, I hope that it doesn’t turn (too) homicidal.

epicness.

I just got back from an epic cookie-baking party. Needless to say, they were delicious. You all should be jealous that you weren’t there. We baked, we gossiped, and we traded dresses — basically, we were very girly. And I’m beginning to think (or hope, at least) that it’s true that calories don’t count when they’re consumed with someone else.

But anyway. I decided that this post ought to have a point, since mine so often do not. Since I am (still) at a loss, here are some Interesting Things. So, on to the Interest:

Fashion & Photography:

These are two things that I love. A lot. So when I find an amazing combination of both, I die of happiness. One amazingly epic fashion magazine is Numero, which I believe I’ve mentioned before.  I would die to be able to subscribe to this. Unfortunately, since it’s French to get it shipped to my part of the world is insanely expensive — to the tune of about $150 a year — and I need to save up for a new DSLR. Sigh. However, this magazine has some of the most amazing fashion photography you will ever see in your life. If you are privileged enough to own a copy, I envy you. Also check out the blogs on my blogroll; most of them have to do with these two topics.

Books:

I am a huge nerd, and being a bookworm is generally part of that package. So some good books to read RIGHT NOW are:

Paper Towns by John Greene

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson

Smashed: Story of a Drunken Girlhood by Koren Zalickas

The Pillowman (play) by Martin McDonagh

Music:

This here is the main reason I feel sorry for the deaf. Reading lyrics is all fine and dandy, but it must really suck to miss the tune itself. So here are some songs I’m listening to right now.

Alejandro by Lady GaGa

Robots by Flight of the Conchords

Pony (It’s Okay) by Erin McCarley

Campus by Vampire Weekend

Foundations by Kate Nash

Yes, my taste in music is rather eclectic.

Everything Else:

Again, see the blogroll! The people and blogs on there are the essence of awesome.
