Listening to: Brett Dennen — Surprise, Surprise

Ahhh Easter everyone. I failed to get up at eight and go to church this morning, furthering my failure at being Catholic.

This has been the longest week all year, and now I’m sitting here and realizing that the year’s almost over and I haven’t gotten anywhere. Maybe that’s a lie. I asked two boys to model for me for the first time ever; the first was awkwardish and tense, as I’d expected, but the second was really fun because my model was really fun/ a photographer himself. I would show these photos to you, but I still have to obtain consent to do so.

Lately I’ve been spending all my online-time on my tumblr, which is one of myriad reasons why posts on here have been so infrequent. My (though not sincerest) apologies. I’ve also been somewhat busy, procrastinating all of my real-life duties by attempting to have a social life, and dealing with the horrors that come with that. There are only a few more weeks of dealing with this, though, then three months of drawing classes and freedom and vitamin D-rehab.

and the cockles of my heart were slighly less chilly.

Listening to: The Posies — Love Comes

First off, I’d like to wish everyone a happy Commercial Romantic Holiday. As you may have guessed from that introduction, it isn’t exactly my favorite mark on the calendar, but SOME CATHOLIC DUDE DIED SO YOU BETTER PROFESS YOUR LOVE OR YOU’RE GOING TO BE SINGLE FOREVER. Not that you shouldn’t celebrate if you really, you know, want to. I, for one, wore all black — black dress shirt, black pants, black boots, black blazer, black earrings, and being black. But it was also really warm today, so I kind of ended up regretting it. I was dissuaded from sending one of my classmates whose existence confounds me a valentine reading, “I hate you :) ” surrounded by a pink highlighter heart because, apparently, “teenage boys have feelings too.” One of my friends did send me a candy-gram, though, which gave me a warm fuzzy feeling that I soon realized was acid reflux from eating too many strawberries and cream.

But on a less quasi-holiday note, one of my dear friends from dance was kind enough to let me photostalk her one day after practice. The above photograph is one of the fruits of that endeavor (which was actually quite successful, if I do say so myself). So at least I know that I won’t be empty-handed for class tomorrow, once everyone isn’t feeling so lovey-dovey.

This here is an example of anwa + webcam + gimp2 – creativity. Lulz, does anyone remember when filters were  cool?

For one, happy MLK Day. Today has been full of awesomely epic winning fail, as paradoxical as that sounds. Every year, for lunch on MLK Day, my school’s dining service attempts “Martin Luther King Jr.’s last/favorite meal and/or what was on the menu of the first African-American owned restaurant in the South,” but what they end up with is… not-so-great cringeworthy/laughable stereotypical black people food. I actually have a photo of it (that my friend took), but it’s on my cell phone. On the bright side, they had coconut M&Ms at the school bookstore — FTW.

Today at English class we were reciting poems. I recited Atwood’s “They are hostile nations” to glowing review, thank you very much, but that was outside of the classroom. Inside the classroom, everyone was all snappity and trying to move as not to be called on to read next. While our teacher was outside, someone set the clock on her computer forward so that we got let out of class almost fifteen minutes early. Ahh, immaturity.

Right after English, I went to my dorm and brought my laundry up to my room. And then I realized that I’d taken the dirty laundry back, and by the time I got back downstairs, the truck had already come to pick up/drop off the laundry. So, much to the amusement of everyone coming back from classes, I sprinted after the laundry truck in the snow, without a jacket, in stocking feet, leggings, and an oversized pajama shirt, clutching my dirty laundry for dear life. I caught the truck, amazingly (well, it’d stopped, but that’s besides the point), but the incident made me very happy that certain people had since moved to the other side of campus.

Yes, my life is very interesting. I should have my own television programme.

boxing day snow whimsy + new diana+ lens.

Listening to: Santigold — L.E.S. Artistes

Happy belated Boxing Day, everyone! What a nice little footnote on the calendar that was. I spent the day before eating Polish desserts with Nigerian people (who ate all of the upside-down pear pie I baked, by the way, but barely touched the pecan one) and playing with someone else’s albino baby, and much to my delight, I received the Diana+ 38mm lens I’d been hoping for as a Christmas present. So on Boxing Day I shot two rolls of film with Blé, one with my new lens on my FM10 and one with my standard Nikkor 35-70mm lens, and I’ve got to say that I was surprisingly pleased with the results.

Listening to: Vampire Weekend — Holiday

I’m good at missing dates. authoraiINK’s birthday was exactly one year and 14 days ago, on December 9th, 2009. Yay for a year of procrastination!

Speaking of procrastination, it’s two days ’till Christmas and we just finished building our Christmas tree. Yes, I said building: We have a much-abused, 12+ year-old artificial tree which was looking kind of misshapen because I sort of tossed (read: threw) its pieces carelessly from the box. Then I almost set our carpet on fire because I didn’t realize that one of the large bulbs in our string of lights had shattered.

But anywho. Since I’m on vacation and such, I’ve been engaged in a few of my hobbies which were neglected during school, namely 1) stalking my neighbor and 2) reading. It actually works pretty well; I go to my neighbor’s house, eat her lemon squares, take a pile of her books, and leave. So far I’ve read Crescendo, the sequel to Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick; I’ve caught up on my current favourite manga series Alice in the Country of Hearts; and I’ve gotten angry that I can’t hate the ending to Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments series because it hasn’t actually ended. It makes me angry because it’s like saying a heartfelt goodbye to someone you’re going to miss and then running into them again five minutes later.

Well, happy holidays and such. I have gifts to wrap, movies to see (The Black Swan), and Christmas trees to crush.

Soooooo. Back home for the holidays. Yay? Lots of driving. I finally got the CDs that I put on hold at the local library (I had to dash in 0.25 seconds before closing), which means I had to choose four CDs to exclude from my next iPod syncing. I received the terrible news that CARINE ROITFELD IS RESIGNING AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY DREAMS and the lady at the CVS ruined my black and white roll of film, so now its sad corpse hangs from my bulletin board. But I still have two rolls of color film, one from my LC-A+ and one from my FM-10, to share with you, so all is not lost.

Listening to: Stars of Track and Field — End Of All Time

…for the record, that nail polish has since chipped off, I lost my pencil and broke the clasp on my beaded bracelet. Le sigh.

But guess who’s done with exams? Yes, that would be me. I bought a PopTart at the bookstore and snatched a banana from the dining hall, so now I’m gonna sleep until I leave tomorrow. When I get back, the middle of the three sticky notes on my desk — the one that says “Happy Christmas” in Korean — will no longer be relevant, but it will aid in confusing people along with the other two written by the same messenger, the first of which says “THANKS SO MUCH From the Asian :) ” and the second, which contains nothing more than nonsensical Korean vowels. I wish I spoke a language that didn’t use the Latin alphabet.

But I got a new pair of boots. They’re actually kind of spiffy, so I hope they’ll fit when they arrive.

I’ll admit that I was kinda inspired by the current Urban Outfitters catalog to find a pair of tough-looking boots, even if it’s unlikely that I’ll ever wear them with a sequined party dress.

a 101st post to celebrate halloween, also forgetting to celebrate the 100th post.

Listening to: Sade — Never as Good As The First Time

Happy Halloween!

I hope that your Hallo-weekend has been safe and fun and such. Mine’s certainly been busy, and fun too I suppose (even though I didn’t get to work at the haunted house with Blé this year, sigh). In fact, I’ve been so rushed that, even as I posted and edited this week’s Friday Foofaraw about four times, I completely missed that it was authoraiINK’s 100th post. So happy 101st post  now, I suppose!

Well. Yesterday was the day that everyone wore their costumes to class. I was a Man In Black/ Secret Agent/ Mafia member with my downstairs neighbor; but so few people got it that when people asked me what I was, I said, “intimidating.” I even had a gun-shaped hand-warmer (which you can see in the photo above) that, surprisingly, confused the people of my English class.

I like coming up with a “Halloween outfit” rather than buying a costume; it both gives you more options and forces you to be more creative. And even though I know that the general stereotype of female badasses is that they wear ridiculous heels (eg. Annie’s Louboutin heels in Covert Affairs, anything that Angelina Jolie has worn in any action movie ever), I thought that Converses were both more practical and more appropriate.

At night, for the dance, I dressed as an acid trip. I wore my knee-high Converse boots, bright red tights that I borrowed from my roommate, huge electric-blue heart earrings and an incredibly trippy dress of indescribable patterning. In the hectic rush of our little preparation party, I didn’t get a photo of the outfit, but one of my friends was kind enough to take a picture of the eye makeup for me.

I apologize for the awkward flash-employed photo — I was so  proud of my handiwork in person that I wasn’t that worried about how it looked on (fake) film. The eyeliner, which you can’t really see in this shot, was lime-green Revlon cream eyeshadow. The bluish shades of eyeshadow were from the same set, and the pink and purple were from a L’Oréal HIP color duo. The mascara is Maybelline  Lash Stiletto.

Anyway, I hope that you have an awesome/scary/whatever-you-want-it-to be Halloween! I got all of my partying done yesterday — the rest of my day, I’m afraid, is destined to be spent in front of my computer screen.

Happy Birthday, America!

Hypothetically, it’s only three more years until I can fully move anywhere else. Oh sigh.

If you’re from the States, I hope you have fun with your Independence Day festivities (or lack thereof), and if you’re British… well, take today to be glad that you got rid of us.

Happy Birthday, America!

2 days left!

Happy Memorial Day, everyone (well, every-American-one). I hope you spent today doing something outdoorsy and American-like, like having a barbecue. Not sitting inside taking your finals, like I was. Instead of remembering fallen soldiers, I tried to remember the steps in meiosis. And I packed. All but one of my cameras have been packed into a shoebox (they only fit because my feet, as I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, are insane). In two days, my dad, my Lomo and I will head across the country. This is one of the reasons why you have no photo-of-the day — I am too busy and disorganized to dredge up an old photo, ‘cuz I don’t have any new ones, retouch it, and attach it. My sincerest apologies.

some numbers for you instead:

2 days until I leave campus

3 tests I have left to take

1 day until the Sims 3 Ambitions comes out

788 songs on my iPod

7 dollars the bookstore gave me back for returning my $50 dollar biology book

5 days until Ble’s and my photo shoot

6 rolls of film I have left

300+ photos I need to take for my photography portfolio
